Be advised that you are spending $50 for $5 worth of plastic and motor, and your cats will refuse to drink out of it anyway. Having said that, it appears to function as advertised.

I've bought 3 of these things in two years. They do not last long at all the pump quits on me. I have never figured out how to get the pump out to service it or clean it. I kept water in it to. I got fed up with paying over $45 for junk that last maybe 6-8 months. My cats love these machices so I had to look around the market to see if I could get one something this one only better.
I found the fresh flow pet mate for $19 and was able to buy 2 one for up stairs and down. They appear to me to be better constructed I can get to the pump, and they have a water bottle attached for convience. What I like about it is it is quiet its spout trickles down a slope instead of running out like a faucet and hitting a hump like the drinkwell. I think the cats preferred the drinkwell, but it just did not last. Now will the petmate hold up?

First let me say that the product does work well and my two cats and one dog now refuse to drink from a bowl. With that said the product must be taken apart to be cleaned and removing the pump is no easy task. I have tried for 30 minutes and and only accomplished broken nails and bleeding fingers. I finally had to hand the thing to my husband. He was able to remove it but not easily. I am looking for a fountain that is easier to clean.

It works great, the dogs like it and it is really cool. The unit is a bit hard to clean, I take out the filter and then I wash it. When ordering the fountain get the bigger reservoir, because it is a stinker to refill, can't help but splashing water on the floor.

It's true that cats like to play in and drink running water. In addition, the splash and murmur of the drinkwell is a soothing background sound for the human owner! I discarded the filter because it seemed like an unnecessary complication to me--our water in Little Rock is very good and tasty. I also bought a couple of baby bottle brushes for cleaning, as the fountain has several little nooks and crannies that get pretty slimy (I have four cats). You can ditch the little lid on the top; my cats take it off every time, because they want to drink out of the TOP of the reservoir instead of the bowl!
