I'm extremely pleased with the quality and performance of the fountain; my cats enjoy drinking from it and I'm confident they receive clean, thoroughly cycled water. It requires minimal cleaning, which I do once per week. I add fresh iced water daily but disassemble weekly and wash off the inside of the fountain. The filters last for what seems like "forever" as long as you rinse them out regularly....but refill filters are inexpensive. Makes a great gift for other cat owners. My cats, *(the TRUE customer) love it.... SY

I have had Drinkwell, Petmate and Hagen Catit fountains. The thing I like about Hagen is the huge filter. It keeps hair and food out of the pump. What I don't like is that it takes a lot of water just to get it ready for use. I clean the water fountain every week and the water is always slimy and it takes a half gallon to fill it.
I bought the Hagen fountain because it was cheaper than the Drinkwell and Petmate, but overall I'm going back to my other two choices. I feel that Drinkwell and Petmate, even though they have a smaller tank capacity, the water is fresher. I believe that I'll be buying Petmate this next time because of the water reservoir. That gives my cats fresh, untainted water all week.

I love this fountain. It is so easy to clean and maintain. The only negative is it holds 1 liter less than the older model so I need to fill it up every 2 days.

After using a typical water fountain as a kitty fountain, this one is amazingly simple to operate, wash, and refill. It's not a small fountain as I expected. I've had it for a few weeks and it runs perfectly. I don't hear a humming noise unless it's running low. And even then it's minimal. My cats don't mind the noise at all.
